How can the cold be your friend?


Both Matt and I are always looking for new ways to keep fit, well and healthy. Our most recent discovery is the Wim Hof method. If you haven’t heard of Wim, I would seriously suggest you check him out. He is about to become a house hold name as the BBC are doing a series in the spring with him called ‘Freeze the Fear’.

This weekend we explored Carding Mill Valley and took a plunge in the reservoir. Using the Wim Hof breathing method we have been ‘enjoying’ cold showers and cold dips like this. The picture below is of us after our dip in the water.

The benefits of cold water immersion are well researched. These include:

  • Speeding up metabolism,
  • Reduced inflammation, swelling and sore muscles
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Increased focus
  • Improved immune response
  • And an increase in energy levels
