Making Sure You’re in Safe, Qualified Hands
When choosing a chiropractor, it’s important to know that you’re being treated by a fully qualified, registered professional. In the UK, the title “chiropractor” is protected by law, meaning only those who meet strict education and professional standards are legally allowed to use it. Here’s how you can check that your chiropractor is legitimate and properly regulated.
The General Chiropractic Council (GCC)
All chiropractors practising in the UK must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) – the official regulatory body for the profession. The GCC ensures chiropractors meet high standards of education, professional conduct, and ongoing training.
If someone is not registered with the GCC, they cannot legally call themselves a chiropractor.
How to Check Registration
It’s easy to verify your chiropractor’s registration status:
- Visit the General Chiropractic Council website at www.gcc-uk.org
- Click on the “Search the Register” option.
- Enter the chiropractor’s name or registration number. Laura’s number is 04200
You’ll be able to see whether they’re currently registered, along with details of their registration status.
Qualifications and Professional Standards
Registered chiropractors have completed a minimum of four to five years of university-level education in chiropractic – usually earning a Master of Chiropractic (MChiro).
At our clinic, Laura is a fully qualified chiropractor with a Master of Chiropractic (graduating in 2015). She is registered with the GCC and completes at least 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) every year to maintain her registration and stay up to date with the latest evidence-based practice.
Why Regulation Matters
Seeing a registered chiropractor gives you peace of mind that:
- Your practitioner is properly trained and insured.
- They follow strict professional and ethical standards.
- Your treatment is safe, evidence-based, and regulated by law.
