It is the time of the year…. for gardening injuries.
With the weather slowly improving after the almost biblical start to the year, many of you are rushing back into the garden. But here is a word of caution.
I’ve already seen people in practice with gardening related injuries, aches and pains. But why does this happen? When it comes to gardening, people seem to forget the physical strain it can place on your body. I see gardening as a sport. Warming up, regular breaks and a stretch to cool down can help you keep injury free in the garden.
But why should I take regular breaks? If you began running, you would most likely start a couch to 5km program that involves running mixed with spells of walking. The walking element can be seen as ‘regular breaks’ and will help you get used to gardening again.
Trying to do too much too soon is an easy way for you to develop new aches and pains or strain old injuries.
So, please take care in your garden!
